About Pentel

Founded in 1946 in Tokyo, Japan, the company was originally called Japan Stationery Limited and produced crayons & pastels. In 1960, the company launched the Pentel Pencil, the world’s first mechanical pencil with a push button for advancing the lead.
The name Pentel is a combination of the words pen and tell.
In 1963 they launched the first felt tip pen, the iconic 'Sign Pen' we still use and love today.
Have you ever heard the urban legend of NASA spending millions on developing a pen that would write in outer space, where the Russians just used a pencil?
Well; Pentel's Sign Pen became the official writing instrument of NASA.
With much of today’s writing instrument technology coming from their research and development, Pentel is truely one of the great innovators in the game and we are happy to stock selection of personal favorites here at Misc. Store.
