“Every project is a prototype for another version in the future.”
Released by BON BOOK, Viewpoint in the Fog is the latest publication from Postalco founders Mike and Yuri Abelson, marking the brand’s 25th anniversary.
The book reflects on Postalco’s philosophy of design through making — what they call “thinking through the body.” From the first small notebooks to furniture and everyday tools, Postalco’s work has always grown from curiosity, careful observation, and respect for craftsmanship.
At its heart, the book explores what it means to create in the midst of daily life. Inspired by conversations with friends who balance creative practices with family and other demands, Mike and Yuri describe creativity as “moving forward through dense fog.” Rather than seeing chaos as an obstacle, they embrace it as part of the process.
Viewpoint in the Fog is both a behind-the-scenes look at Postalco’s approach and a thoughtful reference for anyone navigating the challenges of creative work — whether in design, food, music, writing, or beyond.
Printed with BON BOOK, this publication blends philosophy, personal reflection, and Postalco’s distinctive design language into a quietly inspiring read.
15 Chapters, Essay and Dialog
Includes daily habits such as "Refilling Things" and "Orange Wrapping Paper," foundational concepts like "Wearing Paper" and "Color Without Name," and their current explorations like "Skin as a Ruler" and "Pants are a Nest of Problems." It also features contributions from Swiss curator Annina Koivu and dialogues between Mike and Yuri.
📍 At Misc Store we’re celebrating the launch with a Postalco drink in Amsterdam together with Mike Abelson himself. A rare chance to meet the founder and hear more about the ideas behind the book.
Come and join us with a drink on Sept 12th 2025 from 16-18, and a work shop hosted by Hiyoko Imai on Sept 14th. For more info see here.

You detect something of a quest for perfection in Postalco’s work. A sliver of imagination that sticks itself into something not quite good enough and prises it open, revealing new territories within.
Postalco products are often materially dependant, reflecting a precise history of the leather, brass, cotton and fabric with which they were made. We were drawn to these objects from the moment we saw them. From the moment we began stocking Postalco in 2010, we found their work special — touching in its desire for longevity and engaging in its aesthetic sensibility.
We’re a proud stockist of Postalco, and we have been carrying their products since we first opened Misc Store in Amsterdam. If you’re in the Netherlands, come and visit our store in to get a feel for these supremely tactile objects.

About Postalco

You detect something of a quest for perfection in Postalco’s work. A sliver of imagination that sticks itself into something not quite good enough and prises it open, revealing new territories within.
Postalco’s very first project began in just such an inquisitive way. Bag designer Mike Abelson found the bag of his partner, graphic designer Yuri Abelson, stuffed with awkwardly bent papers from her work. He set about making a better carry case for her papers, which resulted in the Postalco legal envelope. Soon enough, they packed their bags and swapped New York for Tokyo, in order to be closer to the artisans responsible for crafting their distinctive products.
Postalco products are often materially dependant, reflecting a precise history of the leather, brass, cotton and fabric with which they were made. We were drawn to these objects from the moment we saw them. From the moment we began stocking Postalco in 2010, we found the Ableson’s work special – touching in its desire for longevity and engaging in its aesthetic sensibility.
