When it comes to pencil sharpeners, we like to think there is no other pencil sharpener more quintessential than this Swiss-made Caran d'Ache Metal Pencil Sharpening Machine. Robustly constructed from almost entirely metal, this is a sharpener that can be passed down through generations. Mount it to your desk, table or bookcase using the supplied clamp.
Adjustable to change the type of point
Suitable for sharpening Pencils from 4-10mm in diameter.
Developed in Switzerland
This heavy-duty machinery weighs 0.95 kg.
This Metal Pencil Sharpening Machine can be used to sharpen any round, hexagonal or triangular pencils and pastels, with a maximum diameter of 10mm. The butterfly clamps hold the pencil firmly in position for sharpening. Pinch them together, place in the pencil, release and away you go. A feature of this machine that truly makes it more than just your ordinary pencil sharpener, is that you can adjust the length of the point. You can do by adjusting the button in the centre of the crank. And of course a convenient metal drawer holds all the shavings to keep things tidy.
Caran d'Ache & Misc-store
Derived from the Russian term for "pencil" "Karandash", which in turn comes from the Turkish root "kara tash" referring to black stone, i.e. the origins of graphite, the name Caran d'Ache is the pen name of Russian-born French illustrator Emmanuel Poiré. Since 1915 Caran d'Ache is located in Geneva, Switzerland, where its "Maison" is committed to create and develop writing and drawing instruments of the finest materials with the most advanced and innovative skills. At Misc-store we love to maintain our own collection of pencils with this beautiful machine. Take a look here to see our pencil preferences.

About Caran d'Ache
Caran d’Ache pens are visually stunning, yes, but just wait till you hold one in your hands. There’s a richness in the way it moves, a sort of creamy elegance. It’s like riding in a convertible for the first time. Sneaking into the pool at a five-star hotel. Swearing in French. That is, it feels like living your life a touch more decadently than you thought you might be entitled to. (But oh! How good it feels once you’ve got it.) Named for the Russian word for pencil (karandash), this erstwhile company was founded in 1915 when entrepreneur Arnold Schweitzer purchased the Ecridor colour pencil factory on the outskirts of Geneva.
Over the years, Caran d’Ache have developed their range, making pens and pencils with the same delicacy and precision that their compatriots bring to watchmaking. After all, we love the Caran d’Ache range for the finesse they put into the smallest of details, for their feel for luxury. Their pencil wood is often harvested from local Swiss forests, and the graphite is carefully selected, coloured and graded to produce a stubbornly strong tip. Their pens are carefully engineered objets d’art, capable of gliding over eight kilometres worth of ink. The end results are perfectly balanced writing tools that elevate themselves above the conventional and into the exceptional.
We love the way that Caran d’Ache tools feel so light and easy in your hand, and we’re more than happy for you to try them out in our Amsterdam store. You can browse our selection in our online shop.
