In celebration of MD's 15th year anniversary, the MD team invited Mikkiko Amemiya and 14 other artists to get creative with the MD Notebook and enjoy the way you can write everywhere, even the cover. Then they created a special-edition MD Notebooks with the artists' illustrations and writing blind embossed on the covers.

With the artists given carte blanche on an A5 MD, the original artwork is debossed on an A6 notebook.

Available for limited time only and while stock lasts.

Mikiko Amemiya for Midori MD

Ame is a Kobe-based dentist and artist. Her artistic work — photography, calligraphy and illustrating — began as a hobby when Ame was a student. She now publishes her works in calendars and other products, teaches workshops on photography and calligraphy, holds individual exhibitions of her art and works on department store catalogs and event planning. With her 43K followers on instagram, she shares slices of life with her own unique style.

About their artwork for Midori MD, Ame shares: "A notebook is a place where all kinds of ideas are born and grow. When I chose these motifs, I was thinking of the way your notebook appears in many different scenes in your life—it's a part of your daily life. I used simple lines and organic text. I also incorporated the same elements as the stickers that come with the MD Notebook. The user finishes the cover by filling those parts in—write things like your name and the date. MD Notebook is smooth and makes writing easy. When you open it, it sits open at 180 degrees, so you can write calligraphy freely with nothing restricting you. I feel like my calligraphy comes out even better than usual on smooth paper like this. And seeing these versions of MD Notebook with all kinds of ideas, notes and records makes it even more fun."

Midori MD PAPER x Misc-store Amsterdam

MD Paper is Midori’s pride when it comes to the art of making paper. Ever since Midori made MD Paper in the 1960’s, they have applied the Japanese ‘Kaizen’ principle — meaning they are continuously looking for ways to improve its quality. The result is paper that will not stain, or bleed and is fantastic to write on, especially with a fountain pen.

Not only the paper itself has been developed carefully, also the method of binding deserves an explanation. The MD Notebooks are bound by means of stitching; a large sheet of papier is folded into a bundle of 16 pages. Then, such bundles are bound with thread. To honor this method of binding, Midori has left the cover uncovered, so its spine exposes the cheesecloth tape, which is used to reinforce the bound paper. This method enables the notebook to open entirely flat, ensuring ease of writing, without a bumpy middle.

At Misc-store Amsterdam, we proudly carry Midori MD PAPER's entire range of notebooks and accessories. Visit our store in Amsterdam to have a look at their collection.

MD PAPER PRODUCTS are simple, Japan-made products and Midori’s pride when it comes to the art of making paper.

Not only the paper itself has been developed carefully, also the method of binding deserves an explanation. The MD Notebooks are bound by means of stitching; a large sheet of paper is folded into a bundle of 16 pages. Then, such bundles are bound with thread. This method enables the notebook to open entirely flat, ensuring ease of writing, without a bumpy middle.
To honor this method of binding, Midori has left the cover uncovered, so its spine exposes the cheesecloth tape, which is used to reinforce the bound paper.

Being a stationery manufacturer from the 1950’s, MD PAPER PRODUCTS can be described as part of Midori's blueprint. Ever since Midori made MD PAPER in the 1960’s, they have applied the Japanese ‘Kaizen’ principle, meaning they are continuously looking for ways to improve its quality. The result is paper that will not stain nor bleed and is fantastic to write on, especially with a fountain pen.
