Everyday Adventures Prompt Cards

€ 15,00

Everyday Adventures Prompt Cards are 60 cards with suggestions for a more exciting life through pocket-sized adventures.

As grown-ups, one of our deepest urges is for life to be more adventurous: a little more excitement, novelty, interest and passion. Unfortunately, many adventures, especially the ‘big’ kinds, are too expensive, threaten to upturn everything and can upset those who rely on us.

What we therefore badly need is access to smaller, more pocket-sized adventures. Let's call these ‘Everyday Adventures’ – from something tiny like eating an unfamiliar fruit from the market to re-reading your favourite book to asking a parent what they were like...

Let's call these ‘Everyday Adventures’ – from something tiny like eating an unfamiliar fruit from the market to re-reading your favourite book to asking a parent what they were like as a teenager.

This is a suggestion box to spark the imagination, revive the spirit and motivate us towards the slightly more adventurous lives we long for.

Adventures include:

• Write down five questions you wish someone else would ask you; ask them of someone else.

• Set your alarm before sunrise and go for a walk.

• Complete the sentence: ‘If I wasn’t afraid of failure, I would…’ Tell a friend your answer.

• Make something nice out of beetroot.

The School of Life at Misc-store Amsterdam

At Misc-store we carry three Writing as Therapy Journals: Journeys, Night Thoughts and Projects. We also carry their prompt cards for confidence, self knowledge and even career crisis, and we love their books on Small Pleasures.

The School of Life is devoted to developing emotional intelligence through the help of culture. We address such issues as how to find fulfilling work, how to master the art of relationships, how to understand one’s past, how to achieve calm and how better to understand, and where necessary change, the world.

We love The School of Life because their items make a great gift for ourselves and others. Back in 2013 we started with a range of The School of Life items in store, and we are so happy that we can extend our range with all their new items, focusing on the job we have, appreciating small pleasures and the things that might go unnoticed.

About The School of Life

Alain de Botton founded The School of Life in 2008. His aim was to make philosophy — long seen as the inaccessible, inauthentic stuff of academies and archives — a functional aspect of modern life. The care with which ancient philosophers thought about their lives remains a valuable antidote to the generalised anxiety of our era.

The school thus posits that ideas of Plato, Aristotle and the Stoics are as relevant to us today as they were in ancient Greece. Even if Epicurus never had social media burnout, understanding his thinking can lead us to a healthier relationship with our phones — and by extension, with one another.

Developing emotional intelligence in the workplace
The working world can feel, at times, to operate with a dog-eat-dog intensity. We are often made to feel anxious or powerless by our jobs. Our colleagues can irritate or undermine, our bosses can demand too much while giving too little, our clients can be rude and difficult to please, and our assets are never quite liquid enough. So it goes.

We began stocking The School of Life’s series on work, gratitude and pleasure as a way of thinking through these issues. We admire these series for their capacity to stimulate reflection, and their ability to give a new perspective on age old problems. At its core, it is a set of strategies for finding meaning in the modern world.

The School of Life has had its own corner in our Amsterdam shop, and we’re proud to be one of their stockists in the Netherlands. You can browse our selection in store or on our web shop online.
