The 849 Paul Smith Cyan x Steel is one of the six newest Paul Smith x Caran d' Ache Collabs. As always, the aluminium hexagonal body and comes in a specially made and matching tin gift box. This 4th collab brings together six bicolour 849 ballpoint pens, combining bold, contrasting colours chosen by Paul Smith.

The bicolour design of each pen is achieved by lacquering one colour all over the body. Then a second colour is affixed of each pen with the use of pad printing. This printing process, used for other stationery and writing accessories, allows quality marking that is precise and durable.

Each 849 pen and metal box in this collaboration with the British designer comes with the inscription “Caran d'Ache + Paul Smith” in golden letters, a seal befitting of a timeless collection.

Made in Switzerland by pen-mogul Caran d'Ache, the pen is equipped with the legendary Goliath ink cartridge which provides great writing comfort and with it, you can write up to 600 sheets of A4 pages. That's 8km of writing (!)

Since 1915 Caran d'Ache is located in Geneva, Switzerland, where its "Maison" is committed to create and develop writing and drawing instruments of the finest materials with the most advanced and innovative skills.

About Caran d'Ache

Caran d'Ache history

Caran d’Ache pens are visually stunning, yes, but just wait till you hold one in your hands. There’s a richness in the way it moves, a sort of creamy elegance. It’s like riding in a convertible for the first time. Sneaking into the pool at a five-star hotel. Swearing in French. That is, it feels like living your life a touch more decadently than you thought you might be entitled to. (But oh! How good it feels once you’ve got it.) Named for the Russian word for pencil (karandash), this erstwhile company was founded in 1915 when entrepreneur Arnold Schweitzer purchased the Ecridor colour pencil factory on the outskirts of Geneva.

Over the years, Caran d’Ache have developed their range, making pens and pencils with the same delicacy and precision that their compatriots bring to watchmaking. After all, we love the Caran d’Ache range for the finesse they put into the smallest of details, for their feel for luxury. Their pencil wood is often harvested from local Swiss forests, and the graphite is carefully selected, coloured and graded to produce a stubbornly strong tip. Their pens are carefully engineered objets d’art, capable of gliding over eight kilometres worth of ink. The end results are perfectly balanced writing tools that elevate themselves above the conventional and into the exceptional.

We love the way that Caran d’Ache tools feel so light and easy in your hand, and we’re more than happy for you to try them out in our Amsterdam store. You can browse our selection in our online shop.
