In celebration of MD's 15th year anniversary, the MD team invited shunshun and 14 other artists to get creative with the MD Notebook and enjoy the way you can write everywhere, even on the cover. Then they created a special-edition MD Notebooks with the artists' illustrations and writing blind embossed on the covers.
With the artists given carte blanche on an A5 MD, the original artwork is debossed on an A6 notebook.
shunshun for Midori MD
shunshun is a Hiroshima-based drawing artist. With a single pen, he captures scenes that touched his heart — sunlight glinting on a peaceful sea, beautiful rain falling on the land, soft starlight in the night sky — in works that are humble yet painstakingly created. He holds solo exhibitions around Japan while working on print ad and book cover design work.
About their artwork for Midori MD, shunshun shares: "When I'm thinking about, say, what kind of drawings I want to create for a personal exhibition, I grab my notebook and start sketching out my ideas. I add words to drawings of nature — the sea, rain, wind, mountains — and abstract images. I feel like my mind flits back and forth between imagination and creation, opening up new doors. Sketching things by hand in a notebook is a good way to focus and have fun at the same time. So since the MD Notebook is totally blank, it's a space that clears your mind so that the ideas will flow."

Midori MD PAPER x Misc-store Amsterdam
MD Paper is Midori’s pride when it comes to the art of making paper. Ever since Midori made MD Paper in the 1960’s, they have applied the Japanese ‘Kaizen’ principle — meaning they are continuously looking for ways to improve its quality. The result is paper that will not stain, or bleed and is fantastic to write on, especially with a fountain pen.
Not only the paper itself has been developed carefully, also the method of binding deserves an explanation. The MD Notebooks are bound by means of stitching; a large sheet of papier is folded into a bundle of 16 pages. Then, such bundles are bound with thread. To honor this method of binding, Midori has left the cover uncovered, so its spine exposes the cheesecloth tape, which is used to reinforce the bound paper. This method enables the notebook to open entirely flat, ensuring ease of writing, without a bumpy middle.
At Misc-store Amsterdam, we proudly carry Midori MD PAPER's entire range of notebooks and accessories. Visit our store in Amsterdam to have a look at their collection.
What people say about us
Since its establishment in 1950 the Japanese MIDORI brand manufactures goods that combine both aesthetic and functionality. They do this by paying special attention to beauty and materials used.
Perhaps they are best known for their classic leather covered TRAVELER'S notebook. This notebook has a customisable interior, and you can choose from the broad selection of notebook inserts to configure your ultimate personal notebook. Since 2015 however, TRAVELER'S notebook together with the BRASS and SPIRAL RING collections is brought together in a new brand: Traveler's Company.
But the MIDORI brand also creates separate quality collections consisting of paper products including letters, greetings cards, colored papers, stickers and notebooks amongst others. At misc-store we have chosen to offer their creative design stationery with sophisticated designs.

climate change solutions &
plants a tree for every order
Importing from countries as far as Japan & shipping worldwide has more of an impact than we would like. That is why we plant a tree for every order + we plant an additional 2 trees each day.
Furthermore, we offset the individual carbon footprint of our staff, including travel per individual under 8,000 km by car or 2 short-haul return flights annually, by funding climate change solutions through Ecologi.
A selection of these climate projects are shown here.
