This AJOTO pen is your companion. It will sit faithfully at your desk, waiting for the right occasion. An important contract, maybe. A love letter. With its steady flow and perfect balance, it really wants to put the zing in your signature. You’ll use it like a wedding ring — seriously. Carefully. Joyously. That little flash of metal in your hand that lets you raise an eyebrow, as if to say, “Who, me? In a steady and loving relationship? With my pen? Well…” and you’re being a little bit ironic, but mostly not. Lucky you.
The brainchild of UK-based designers Chris Holden and Tim Higgins, AJOTO was intended from its very earliest days to be a sleek, well-balanced tool, without any superfluous or ill-considered elements. It starts with a chassis made of spun aluminium that gently tapers down to lend a little weight to the front, carved with the same techniques used to build spacecrafts. The screw top serves both to retract the pen and to refill it. Even the packaging is an edifice of aluminium and cork that slots together just so. All these parts fit together to create the kind of luxury that can only happen as the result of hundreds of carefully made decisions.
But none of this matters once it’s in your hand. It’s just you and a beautiful little instrument that feels right.
We have a selection of AJOTO pens available online, and if you’d like to try your hand with one — the feeling makes all the difference — come and visit our Amsterdam store.
